THE FOREST VOICES TOUR
March 8th 2014
Today is International Women's Day - We loaded up our wagon and climbed aboard.. The Forest Voices Tour was heading international too!
We wound our way through some pretty luscious forest and down to a small village by the Ngoko river where there was a ferry crossing. On the other side in Tala-tala we where met by a procession of women to lead us to where we would play.
The town square was full of people all watching the women's processions that had been held back for our arrival. Following on from the parade women on scooters (followed by men doing donuts) filled the scorching hot day with dust.
There was a big stage set up with a large but distorted sound system and we where asked to play immediately - we explained we would need to set up first though!
Most importantly for Sangowé however, was the sight of a big red shiny drum kit!! As you can see from the video he took to his first play on a full kit like the virtuoso he is!
Apologies for the audio quality at the gig - the vibe was incredible, but the speakers they had were terrible! It does let you focus in on the amazing drum rhythm they call the "Boulez Boulez".
PS For anyone interested in where this actually is! Look here.
