Now the Baka's generosity is being exploited. Their land is being taken and their knowledge of the forest is being lost.

WHO ARE THE BAKA PEOPLE?
They are indigenous Pygmy hunter-gatherers living in the Congo basin.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
Due to the logging and mineral riches of their forest home they are being pressurised to leave and live in roadside villages where they face ruthless discrimination and abuse.

WHAT IS GLOBAL MUSIC EXCHANGE?
Named "One Heart" by the Baka women, Global Music Exchange (GME) is a UK based charity run by musicians and formed to preserve, help and encourage the Baka's rich musical culture and unique forest lifestyle.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE?
Over the last 22 years GME has created a Baka Association, built a Music House and helped set up medical, educational, agricultural and clean water projects, funded by our recordings of the Baka music.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?
THE FOREST VOICES TOUR
On the pilot tour in March 2014 we showed that The Forest Voices Tour both raised the Baka’s self-esteem and gave them a voice.

The Forest Voices Tour

In March 2014, Global Music Exchange (GME) organised a pilot Forest Voices Tour. Baka musicians, Orchéstre Baka Gbiné were taken to 5 Baka communities around the Dja Reserve.

The tour had an impact far greater than we could have imagined. The only criticism was that we didn't go to enough communities.

With the help of OKANI, the only Baka run NGO in Cameroon, Forest Peoples Program, CED and many kind contributors, we remedied this with a bigger, better Forest Voices Tour in December 2015. We now need your help to finance the editing of the footage into a short film.

The 2 Forest Voices Tours so far have shown many Baka that they are not alone with their problems and have given them the chance to let their voices be heard.

Help us put together the video of the 2015 tour and make the Baka's voices be heard.
