Feb 27th 2014 We had a restful day at Djamba today. Some interviews were done and we generally took it easy. Lovely smoked eels and wild yams for supper. The food seems far more plentiful and varied here than in the village at Gbiné. Martin I Walked out to the camp at Djamba with Dekkou as guide, just over 2 hours and very hot and sweaty on arrival. Found Martin, Johnny and Clyde who had been doing some recording including this track of Ndongo (on right) playing his m’gongo. It was lovely to see the Baka elders at last. Dondolo, Mbelle & Mbundo all well, but Benjoko is losing his sight! Maybe the Hospital at Salapoumbe can help with their cataract campaign. We recorded some interviews with young Dondolo as interpreter. He was really good. Interviewed old Dondolo, Pelembir and Mbelle. A felled tree divides the camp in two and it was interesting that there seemed to be a womens side and the other for the men. Children are running free all over. Much calmer in the forest camps than in the village by the road. More fresh food too. Andi
