March 6th 2014
We spent the day at Gbiné. Both Lekeweh and Mbeh's identity cards had expired last year. They had both got identity cards in Bertoua back in 2003 when I organised a concert for some of the musicians in a bar. It was their first trip out of the forest area and was a memorable occasion, but that's another story. We heard today that none of the Police stations were issuing the provisional cards (which you are given when you apply for a new ID card to use until the real one arrives) due to the problems in Central African Republic. It seems it was too easy for Central Africans to bribe the police and get a Cameroonian ID. We were assured they could travel on their old cards. They weren't very happy about this, but we assured them it would be OK (well, we hoped it would be). That evening we had another film show. Of course we had to play Vicki Brown's video again (see the Feb 25th post) Martin
